London’s Stats have established themselves as one of TMR’s bands of the year, and their latest track, ‘Old Flames’, only keeps pushing their addictive sound forward. It’s one of the many tracks on the album that sees Ed Seed and Nicole Robson share vocal duties, in a harmonious, call and response-heavy duet. You can tell that the track had its routes in the simplicity and minimalism of live performance, but the band (and producer Tom Andrews) took everything to a new level of hypnotism. Frontman Ed Seed explains the backstory to the song: “When you’re pledging your future together with someone, what do you do with the past you don’t share - do you tell each other everything, or do you just agree not to talk about it?.” Keep an eye out for their upcoming album, Powys 1999. -Dan Peeke
